Doing a deal

Helpful rules to follow when buying a second hand vehicle I always say that when buying a vehicle it’s just as important to be confident about the person you are buying from, as important as the car being in good condition? There are telltale signs you should consider, for example: the condition of their house and garden for one. Look at any other vehicles on the drive, what I mean is, that if someone looks presentable and their other possessions are well cared for there is a good chance that follows for the car. The following rules will help:

September set to be ‘pivotal’ for used car market

September 2014 could be a “pivotal” moment for the used car market in the UK. That’s the view of Glass’s chief car editor Rupert Pontin who said volumes of used cars in the trade were set to rise. “We will start to see an increase in the volume of used cars coming to the market as a direct result of the increase in registrations following the recession,” said Pontin. “There will still be a plethora of base and low spec level cars that have been used predominantly for business, and as such will not achieve the best condition grades. “The trade has long been concerned at the volume of poor quality low specification C and D segment diesel models typically favoured by companies for staff covering significant mileages that have been floating around unsold in auction centres and wholesale channels for several months now,”…

Warranty demand remains high as economy improves

At A1 we offer a 3 Month Back to Base warranty on all vehicles sold with the option to extend for up to 36 Months.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        Sales of extended warranties are continuing to perform strongly despite rising levels of consumer confidence, says The Warranty Group. The company says that rises in consumer confidence traditionally prompt falls in warranty sales as used car customers take on the risk of unexpected motoring costs. However, Ian Simpson, sales and marketing director, said there was no evidence of this is happening in the market. “While confidence about personal finances is increasing, it remains a long way below the level where used car buyers are willing to be cavalier about the possibility of unplanned car repair costs,” he said “There is also a general concern among used car customers about the level of complexity inherent in all modern cars and most feel more…

New Ford Stores to exclusively sell Mustang

Ford will sell its forthcoming Mustang and top-end Vignale models exclusively through a small number of metropolitan based Ford Stores from summer 2015. The Blue Oval is piloting its new Ford Store retail concept at two of its flagship outlets; Peoples Cars in Bootle and Ford Retail’s Edgware Road site in London. The Ford Stores will see participating showrooms display all of the brand’s expanding car and van line-ups with dedicated areas for the all-new right hand drive Mustang and Vignale-badged models, the brand’s new luxury sub-brand, which will be available on the new generation Mondeo as well as the S-Max. “There will be some product exclusivity for the Ford Stores. Mustang and Vignale will be the preserve of the Ford Stores,” said Ford chairman and managing director Steve Ovenden. Ovenden confirmed that measures would also be in place to facilitate customers wishing to…

Used car values dip in April as trade-ins hit market

Values of used cars dipped in April as high numbers of March plate-change trade-ins hit the market. In the first two weeks of the month, for 3yr/60,000 mile vehicles, values fell -2.6% in the City Car and SUV segments. Most other segments saw falls of between -1.6% and -1.8%. Conversely, Convertibles, Coupe Cabriolets, Luxury Executive and Supercars saw rises of between +0.1% and +0.7%. “For most mainstream cars the increase in supply, coupled with a reduction in demand has begun to undermine the unusually robust market that has characterised the past year,” said CAP. Cap said its April Black Book monthly print publication was “rapidly overtaken” by the market and that the May edition will see values taking a bigger hit than a year ago. CAP said the announcement of a book drop in May highlights the difference between digital live market value reporting…

Land Rover teams up with Virgin Galactic

Land Rover has teamed up with Richard Branson’s commercial spaceline, Virgin Galactic. The partnership will see Land Rover vehicles being used by the Virgin Galactic team. Land Rover will base vehicles at the Virgin Galactic test centre in the Mojave Desert, California and at its New Mexico base, Spaceport America. The partnership was announced on board USS Intrepid, an ex-aircraft carrier anchored on the Hudson River, New York. Land Rover brought a full-size replica of SpaceShipTwo VSS Enterprise to New York, where it joined the British Airways Concorde and the Space Shuttle Enterprise upon the Intrepid. Like the Space Shuttle, SpaceShipTwo is a reusable human spacecraft. Shown alongside SpaceShipTwo was Land Rover’s Discovery Vision Concept, a vision of Land Rover’s future family of Discovery vehicles. The vehicle uses augmented reality technology to display a see-through view of the terrain ahead. Richard Branson, founder of…
